I saw part of this film on Turner Classic Movies a few weeks ago, and liked it enough to want to see all of it. So I bought the DVD ...
And amazingly, the back is just as ugly! But this time it doesn't stop with the cover. The DVD menu is the most basic I've ever seen outside of a bootleg copy burned with a personal computer (not that I would know anything about that, if there are any copyright police on patrol here). It was just a blue screen with no title, and you can either "Play Movie" or "Choose Subtitle". What a gyp!
Where does Sony hire the people to design these things? I want this job. It isn't hard! All you need to make a good DVD cover for a classic movie is a movie poster or lobby card. That's what they were designed for ... to sell the movie to the public! And they can do just as good a job on the front of a DVD as they did ornamenting movie houses 70 years ago. Here is Barbara Stanwyck with proof:
Could you resist buying a few copies if she was looking at you like this from a video store shelf?
