When Comics Were Fun

A new goal I have set for myself is to post something in this blog every day, whether it be a picture, a couple paragraphs, a YouTube clip or a college sized lecture. What better way to start than with my favorite subject: comics!

The ASIFA Animation Archive recently posted a number of "Blondie" Sunday pages, and wow, was I ever impressed. I know it's hard for us young people to fathom, but "Blondie" used to be really funny! Chic Young created the strip in 1930 and continued it until his death in 1973.

One of the things I admire about the old school "Blondie" is its ability to make dull real life family situations interesting and fun, while at the same time never forgetting that it is a comic strip and should be drawn funny as well.

This is my favorite of all the Sunday "Blondie" pages that the ASIFA Animation Archive has posted. When I first read it, I was totally envious of Chic Young's ability to mix ho-hum family life with good old fashioned comic strip sensibility (and a funny well-drawn strangulation, too). Don't skip this one, click on it and read it and be astounded! ...

I never imagined I would get to be such a "Blondie" fan. Thanks to the ASIFA Animation Archive for opening my mind!
