"Night Nurse" and More Forbidden Hollywood!

I know I've written about this before, but now the rumors have been verified that the Barbara Stanwyck flick "Night Nurse" is finally coming to DVD in March! It will be included with merry company in Volume 2 of the Warner Bros. "Forbidden Hollywood" collection.

If you don't know what the movie is about, I'll give you a quick raft of it (and a brand new YouTube clip of one of the best scenes) -- In this film Barbara plays Lora Hart, a young nurse with a genuine desire to help people and make a difference in the world.

One day she is assigned to take care of two children at a wealthy widow's mansion, and when she arrives, strange things start to happen. The children are malnourished! The mother is passed out, drunk! A lecherous party animal is on the prowl! And an evil chauffeur gives Lora a punch in the face when she tries to do her job. Life in this mansion is nothing but an orgy of gin, sin, and hot jazz!

Later, as the two children sink lower and lower into ill health, a worried Lora seeks out the kids' derelict mother. She tries to appeal to the last speck of maternal instinct left in the mother's booze-basted soul. Lora breaks the news to her in a forceful way that the children are almost dying, and she must come to the nursery and see them. The mother is too far gone to understand: "Go back behind the bar and get me another drink, willya?"

That's the wrong thing to say to this nurse! See how the action-packed scene plays out ...
